Kirsty McConnell

Kirsty Megan McConnell was involved in the 2016 Scotland Women 7s squad and earned two caps in the Rugby Europe Women’s Sevens Trophy, where Scotland finished third.

The former Lenzie Academy pupil studied sports science at Edinburgh University and the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where she trained as a student athlete on a field hockey scholarship.

She is now a primary school teacher in Glasgow and plays her rugby with top BT Women’s Premier side Hillhead Jordanhill.

McConnell grew up playing rugby with her brothers and was involved in minis at Hillhead Jordanhill, where her mother and father also played.

Her brother Calum now plays rugby in Melbourne and brother Murray, formerly of Glasgow Warriors and Scotland U20, plays for Nottingham.

A talented athlete, she switched to hockey at the end of primary school and played for Scotland U18 and enjoyed a season in New Zealand. She also played football for West District.
