Megan Gaffney

Edinburgh-born Megan Eilidh Gaffney was selected for the first Scotland Women 7s team when it was established in 2012 and has played in four out of five seasons since.

She featured in all four tournaments in 2012 scoring a try against France in Amsterdam, three tries at Rugby Rocks London, two tries at the FIRA-AER European qualifier in Ghent and two tries at the FIRA WRWC qualifier in Moscow.

In the opening Rugby Europe Grand Prix Series tournament in Brive, France in June 2013, she scored Scotland's only try in the pool game against Italy. In the first Grand Prix tournament of 2015, in Kazan, Russia, she scored two tries as the Scots progressed to win the Bowl.

Gaffney was selected to play for the GB Team at the World Student Games 7s in Brive in July 2012 and scored a try against Romania on the way to GB's title win at the tournament. She was also included in the initial extended training squad for Team GB, ahead of the 2016 Olympics.

The former North Berwick High School pupil started playing rugby at North Berwick Minis at the age of six.

She has represented Scotland U18, U20, Scotland Women A and Scotland Women, earning her first full international cap in November 2011 against the Netherlands and featuring in the past five Women’s Six Nations.

Currently studying towards a Masters in Sports Policy, Management and International Development at the University of Edinburgh, Gaffney was in the Edinburgh University Women’s squad which won three BUCS titles in 2016/17.
